Feeding Our Neighbors, Reducing Food Waste Together
We’re a small but mighty nonprofit dedicated to making everyday life a little brighter for everyone around us. We work side by side with volunteers, donors, and local partners to meet real needs right here at home in our local San Francisco neighborhoods.
When you lend a hand—whether it’s an hour of your time or a simple donation—you’re not just helping today. You’re investing in healthier families and opportunities that can last a lifetime. Together, we can turn good intentions into lasting change.
Our Team
Cristina Manzanares
I’m Cristina Manzanares, and for over 15 years, my family has proudly called San Francisco’s Richmond District home. Before founding the pantry, I had a career in finance and accounting, but I always felt a deep pull towards making a direct impact in peoples lives. Having known periods of financial and food insecurity in my life, I’ve found a deep sense of purpose in giving back. During the height of the COVID19 pandemic, we established a courtyard pantry to support neighbors in need. With the full support of my family and our neighborhood community, I opened our doors to reduce food waste and strengthen community ties. I’m deeply committed to building and strengthening our community, ensuring every step we take fosters connection and dignity for all. I look forward to continuing this journey, growing my community, and creating real, lasting change together.
Founder/Executive Director
Elaine Hu
Operations CoordinatorI work full-time in a medical facility, where I manage and provide medical records for a range of purposes, including continuity of care and patient access. Helping others has always brought me joy, no matter how big or small the act, which is why I was drawn to Pantry 38 in the early days. I was inspired by what Cristina built and knew I wanted to be a part of it. I’m grateful to have been by her side on this journey ever since. Not only has this experience depended on my commitment to helping others, but it has also allowed me to learn, grow, and become a better person along the way. I look forward to continuing this journey and supporting the organization as it grows, and to the meaningful impact it will continue to make over time.
Volunteers
Helping Hands of San Francisco, Inc. and Pantry 38 can’t do this alone. Through the generosity of donors and volunteers we’re able to provide food across the Richmond District to neighbors in need.
We welcome individuals of all ages and skill sets to lend a hand at Pantry 38!
